Beyond the city walls of the civilised places of the Sword Coast, all manner of creatures and monsters claim dominion.

Aberrations

Aberrations are creatures that are unnatural and had no place in the natural order of the Material plane or, in fact, most of the other known planes.

Beasts

A beast was any creature that behaved in a manner similar to that expected of common animals dwelling in the Prime Material Plane. However, while animals were generally beasts, many beasts were not animals and could have highly abnormal origins or features.

Giant Centipede

Giant centipedes are monstrously sized arthropods which are typically venomous. They are usually found deep in dark forested areas or in subterranean cave systems.

Found throughout the wild places and the civilised places of  Faerûn, Ravens are a large bird that are often used as familiars by wizards.

Stirges are tiny magical beasts which feed upon the blood of other creatures. They generally prefer to gather in large flocks, in which they can take down much larger prey.

Dragons

Dragons (or wyrms) are very powerful and magical creatures. There are several types of dragons, the most common of which are chromatic and metallic, which are evil and good, respectively.

Also known as Skull Dragons, they are considered to be the most evil of the chromatic dragons. The Wyrmling is the youngest phase of a dragon's life.

Gold, Young Adult

Graceful and wise, the gold dragons are the most powerful of the metallic dragons. Young Adult dragons are large, but are still at least half the size when compared to an adult.

Also known as Storm Dragons, blue dragons are unique among the chromatics for their herirarchical societies. Adult dragons are the first fully grown life stage.

The resultant offspring from a union between a dragon and a humanoid. They are far larger than most humanoids and draw a great deal of strength from their draconic bloodlines.

Creatures created through magical rituals using dragon scales. Guard Drakes are loyal to their master and are easy to train as beasts of war.

Also known as Flame Dragons, red dragons are the architypal evil dragon found throughout the Toril. Adult dragons are the first fully grown life stage.

 

Fey

These creatures often come from the Feywild and often have ties to nature.

Humanoids

Humanoid is a general term for the enormous variety of sentient species that make up the world's primary inhabitants, both savage and civilized. They are capable of language, culture, and in many cases of learning magic.

A semi-religious organisation that venerates undead dragons and draco-liches. They believe that undead dragons are destined to rule the world one day.

Smaller and more numerous than other goblinoids. Goblins are often found living underground in lairs from which they can launch ambushes.

Hobgoblins are larger, smarter, stronger and generally more fearsome form of goblinoid. They are however, not as powerful as bugbears.

Kobolds are aggressive, insular, yet industrious small humanoid creatures. They are noted for their skill at building traps and ambushes. 
 

Monstrosities

Monstrosities are often frightening and usually dangerous. They are usually not natural creatures, and some are the result of magical experimentation or curses. Many creatures that do not fit other categories well are considered monstrosities.

Undead

Undead were creatures that had died and then been animated by spiritual or magical forces. Some deities employed undead as divine servants

Flameskulls are fiery undead guardians which were created from the remains of spellcasters. Despite their size they were a potent deterrent often used by necromancers.

Ghosts are the souls of a deceased sentient creature that had been bound to haunt a specific area, object, or creature that held significance to them when they were alive.

Skeletons are the long dead, reanimated corpses of various humanoids and creatures. So far the party have encountered humanoid, cave bear, and wooly mammoth skeletons.
